The tractor protection valve normally mounts at the rear of the truck cab. It is controlled by a dash mounted switch that terminates the air supply to the trailer and is most often used when disconnecting the trailer. In emergency situations such as a trailer break-away or whenever there is severe leakage of air in the air brake system, the valve serves to protect the remaining air supply.
